The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is a prestigious entrance examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to the National Defence Academy. This academy is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force train together before moving on to their respective service academies.
The NDA exam is held twice a year, generally in April and September. It aims to select candidates for training in the three wings of the Indian Armed Forces: the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. The selection process involves a written examination followed by an extensive interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
The written examination consists of two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT), covering subjects like English, General Knowledge, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, and Current Affairs. Candidates need to clear both stages—written and SSB interview—to secure admission.
The NDA exam assesses candidates’ mental ability, logical reasoning, general awareness, and knowledge about current events. It holds immense significance for those aspiring to join the armed forces directly after completing their 12th grade, offering a prestigious and honorable career path in the Indian military services. Successful candidates at the NDA exam embark on a journey of rigorous training and education to become future leaders in the defense of the nation.
